When defining the Incoming Datasets for a derived dataset, you can define multiple datasets at once using the Multiple Datasets/Automate button. Clicking this button, or editing an existing Multiple Datasets definition, provides options described below: All variables from all datasets will be included in the resulting derived dataset.
An example of this process is shown here. Here is an example of an Incoming Datasets area where the multiple datasets button has been used:
If we click the Edit icon, we will see the following settings window:
Method - currently, two methods for defining multiple incoming datasets are supported:
- Manually Select Multiple Datasets - this option allows you to manually click datasets that you want to include, from a list of all datasets available to you.
- Datasets Matching Template in Library - this option allows you to enter a dataset name pattern. The dataset names matching this pattern (searched across the entire library selected) will be added to the derived dataset automatically. Note that this option allows for dynamically defining datasets for the derived dataset because the datasets which match the pattern are evaluated anew each time the derived dataset is executed. This selection opens up two more user options.
- Library - this option will appear if the Datasets Matching Template in Library method is chosen. Select the dataset library in which to search.
- Dataset Name Template - Enter a template for the dataset names you want to automatically include in this dataset. Use * to be replace by any set of characters.
Datasets - when Manually Select Multiple Datasets is selected, this provides a list of all datasets available to you in the project. Manually select the ones to include in the derived dataset.

Data Refresh Settings - This setting is relevant if you set this dataset to update automatically upon data refresh. It controls how that is interpreted for these multiple datasets. Set this to 'All Must Be Fresh' if every selected dataset in these settings must have been refreshed for the full dataset to be automatically executed. Set to 'At Least One Must Be Fresh' to automatically execute this dataset when even just one of the above selected datasets has been refreshed. Set to 'None Required' if the selected datasets should play no role in deciding when the full datasets is automatically executed. This setting has no effect if the dataset is not set to an Upon Data Refresh schedule.

Click Save to save your settings, or click Cancel to cancel any changes you have made.
